YSU English Festival went virtual

This year was the 43rd YSU English Festival, a celebration of reading and writing.

Each day for three days, nearly 1,000 students from five counties in Ohio and Pennsylvania come to compete. Students read the seven required books and entered the pre-festival contests in essay and music.

Greenville High School students once again were successful in winning a variety of prizes, even with this year’s virtual format on April 21 and 23. Greenville brought home six prizes this year.

Prize winners include:

• Lia Carter, 8th grade, 1st prize in the Graphic Essay Contest

• Alexa Beck, 10th grade, honorable mention in the Art Contest

Winners for the Candace Gay Memorial Essay Contest:

• Meghan Ickes, 5th place for 10-12th grade

• Lily Baily, 4th place for 7-9th grade

• Isabela Korbini, honorable mention for 7-9th grade

• Lillian Graubard, honorable mention for 7-9th grade
