GROVE CITY — The COVID-19 pandemic didn’t prevent local Girl Scout troops from making a donation Saturday to the Grove City Community Food Pantry.

The donation included about 600 birthday bags, with everything that children in struggling families need to celebrate their birthdays — including cake mix, candles, icing and sprinkles, troop leader and recruit leader Morgan Stevens with Girl Scout Troop 36675 said.

This is the fourth year that Girl Scouts have provided birthday bags to the food pantry, after they about 500 donated last year. This year, the scouts were shooting for 600 birthday bags, due to the increased need from the COVID-19 pandemic, Stevens said.

“There were so many more families in need this year than last year,” she said.

From about 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, the Girl Scouts turned out in several age groups to Grove City Memorial Park, where they followed the necessary COVID-19 safety measures while packing the birthday bags, which the Girl Scouts also decorated.
