Dorothy J. Johnson of 240 High St., Sharpsville, passed away at 11:03 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. She was 64.

Mrs. Johnson was born Oct. 20, 1941, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Juanita Wright Patterson.

She was a 1959 alumna of Cardinal Mooney High School, Youngstown, and worked as a legal secretary prior to her marriage.

Dorothy was employed for the past 11 years as a receptionist at John XXIII Home, Hermitage, and was the friendly voice all encountered when calling the home or entering the main entrance. She was loved very much at John XXIII and the residents, employees and guests will miss her kindness and helpfulness.

Dorothy was a homemaker while raising her family and was an active member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, where she assisted her husband who is the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine facilitator for religious education.

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting afghans and baby blankets and often gave them as gifts.

Surviving are: her husband, John A. “JJ” Johnson Jr., whom she married July 13, 1963, in St. Luke’s Church, Struthers, Ohio; her loving children, Anita M. Murphy and her husband Brian, New Castle; Karen I. Wilcox and her husband Jon, Hermitage; Denise M. Johnson and her fiancé Ronald Ferarri, both Pittsburgh; John A. Johnson III and his wife Rhonni, Abilene, Texas; and Joseph J. “JJ” Johnson, San Angelo, Texas; eight grandchildren, Aleia, Sean, Nolan, Tyler, Jessica, Hanna, Cody and Taylor; her mother-in-law, Irene Johnson, a resident of John XXIII; brothers and sisters-in-law, Florence Patterson, Campbell, Ohio; Karen Matun and her husband Thomas, Columbiana, Ohio; Ronald Johnson and his wife Diane, Marietta, Ga.; and Raymond Johnson and his wife Barbara, Baltimore, Md.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, David Andrew Johnson; and three brothers, George and Thomas Patterson; and Robert Cavinee.
