A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday for Eugene “Gene” S. DeSantis, 2015 Pine Hollow Blvd., Hermitage. He passed away at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006, in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. He was 78.

Mr. DeSantis was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Sharpsville, a son of the late Paul and Olivia “Lena” Tucci DeSantis.

He was a lifelong area resident of the Shenango Valley and a 1947 alumnus of Sharpsville High School.

Gene was a well-known businessman and owned and operated the former Shenango Beverage Inc. in Farrell for more than 35 years. He also owned DeSantis Beer and Pop on West Budd Street in Sharon from 1991-2000, and constructed and co-owned the Farrell Dairy Queen franchise on Idaho Street.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon.

Gene was active in the community and was a member for 48 years of the Farrell Lions Club.

He was also a member of the Wolves Club, the Christopher Columbus Society and the Italian Home, where he served as a trustee, all Farrell; and Sons of Italy Shenango Valley Lodge 875, Sharon.

His wife, the former Theresa A. Jordan, whom he married Nov. 22, 1948, passed away Jan. 14, 2005.

Surviving are: a son, Gene DeSantis Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Dr. Paul J. DeSantis and his wife Beverly, Sharpsville; a sister, Mary Cerroni and her husband Joseph, Allison Park; five grandchildren, Geno DeSantis, Carmen DeSantis and Kara DeSantis, all Florida; and Russell Adkins and Matthew Adkins, both Sharpsville; three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Kate and Gina; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy DeSantis, Farrell; and Angeline Morrow, John XXIII Home; and his brothers-in-law, John Stabile, Hermitage; and Dick Perrine, Sharpsville.

Besides his parents and his wife, Gene was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborra DeSantis; a brother, Dr. Peter L. DeSantis; and a sister, Margaret Murray.

Gene will be remembered for his generosity, his devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren, and as a friend to many.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
