A funeral service will be held Saturday for George W. Lightcap of 25 Lake St., Stoneboro. He died at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, in Trinity Living Center, Grove City, after an extended illness. He was 87.
Mr. Lightcap was born March 19, 1919, in Pottsville, Pa., to Harry and Stella Weand Lightcap.
He was a graduate of Pottsville High School.
In his early years, Mr. Lightcap worked in the strip-mining business in West Virginia, and retired in 1981 after 20 years of service from S.J. Groves Co. of Canton, Ohio, where he provided permitting machinery and tools for road construction contractors.
An Army veteran, Mr. Lightcap served during World War II with an engineering battalion.
He was a member of New Lebanon Community Church and, in his early years, served as an elder for Unity Presbyterian Church, Greenfield.
Mr. Lightcap was a member of Free and Accepted Masons in New Castle and Scottish Rite’s New Castle Consistory. He had been a member of a men’s garden club while living in Titusville, Fla.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
His wife of 63 years, the former Helen E. Klemm, whom he married Sept. 11, 1943, survives at home.
Also surviving are: three sons, George W. Lightcap Jr. and his wife Wilma, Stoneboro; Bruce F. Lightcap, Weirton, W.Va.; and Edward J. Lightcap and his wife Beverly, New Castle; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Dutch (Grace) Brommer, Pine Grove, Pa.; and two brothers, Robert Lightcap and his wife Mary, Brook Haven, Pa.; and James Lightcap and his wife Norma, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Mr. Lightcap was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Service: Funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday (9-16-06) in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Richard C. Steinlechner, pastor of New Lebanon Community Church, officiating.
Interment: With committal service at New Lebanon Cemetery, Mill Creek Township.
