MIDDLEBURG, Ohio — Helen M. Firle of Brook Park, Ohio, formerly of Patton Road, Sandy Lake, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday (6-21-06) in Parkside Villa Nursing Home, Middleburg, after a period of failing health. She was 86.

Mrs. Firle was born Sept. 13, 1919, in Pittsburgh to Michael and Mary Frances Swieconek Woznicki.

She attended Pittsburgh schools and was of the Catholic faith.

Helen was a homemaker and loved working at home where she raised goats, chickens and rabbits. She enjoyed sewing and needlepoint and was known as an excellent baker. Along with her husband, she traveled to local fairs and worked in the Red Cross trailer providing first-aid for various events.

Her husband, August E. “Augie” Firle, whom she married Jan. 24, 1943, preceded her in death June 27, 1976.

She is survived by: a son, August E. “Buddy” Firle Jr. and his wife LaRue, Sandy Lake; two sisters, Genevieve E. “Jenny” Irwin, Cincinnati; and Mary L. Farruggia, Brook Park; and four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Robert Douglas May; and four sisters and a brother.

Calling hours: 11 a.m. to time of service Saturday (6-24-06) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

Service: Funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Gary L. Bennefield, pastor of Shield of Faith Church, Sandy Lake, officiating.

Interment: With committal service in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
