MONT CLARE, Pa. — John A. Jones, Mont Clare, formerly of the Shenango Valley, died at 6:47 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, in his residence. He was 70.

Mr. Jones was born Oct. 1, 1936, in New Castle, a son of the late Ivor and Erma Perrine Jones.

He was owner of Industrial Abrasives, Reading, where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1995.

He graduated from West Middlesex High School and attended Penn State University.

A standout basketball player, Mr. Jones played both at West Middlesex and Penn State. His high school team won the Pennsylvania state championship in 1954. He was inducted into the Mercer County Hall of Fame for basketball.

He was also an avid golfer, playing the majority of his golf at Berkshire Country Club, Reading. Mr. Jones was club champion for several years in a row at Eastpointe Country Club, Palm Gardens, Fla.

Survivors include: a son, Lawrence I. Jones, husband of Betty, Blandon, Pa.; and two daughters, Sandra A., wife of Jeffrey A. Reese, Wyomissing, Pa.; and Laura A., wife of Richard D. Bibb, West Reading.

Other survivors include a sister, Marian E. Jones, Exeter Township, Berks County.

He is also survived by his companion, Dena Reese, with whom he resided.

His former wife, Polly McMichael Jones, Flying Hills, Pa., also survives him. There are two grandchildren, Mackenzie M. Reese and Parker W. Reese.
