Kenneth H. Manning of 1546 Westerman St., Hermitage, and a former 50-year resident of 1367 Buckeye Drive, South Pymatuning Township, passed away unexpectedly at 6:07 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, in the cardio-vascular unit of Sharon Regional Health System with his family by his side. He was 76.

Mr. Manning was born June 22, 1929, in Leavittsburg, Ohio, as son of the late Ray and Ellen Hoover Manning.

He was a 1947 alumnus of the former Leavittsburg High School and moved to the area in 1954.

Ken retired in 1991 as an assistant roller in the 60” Hot Strip Mill of the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant, where he was employed for 35 years. He also worked for many years as a driver for The Herald, Sharon. He previously worked at what is now Delphi Packard Electric SystemsDala Barrow 3/17/06 , Warren, Ohio, where he met his wife Leah.

Ken was a member and vestryman at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Hermitage, and previously a member of the former St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Farrell. He served as a treasurer for the churches a combined 26 years.

Ken was a standout athlete in high school where he played baseball and basketball and later was a member of Sharon Steel’s softball team. He was also an excellent bowler and participated in many leagues throughout the years including The Herald, St. Paul’s and Westinghouse bowling leagues. He participated in many tournaments, traveling as far as Wisconsin, and once had a perfect 300 game.

He was a former member of The Herald Golf League at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course, Hermitage, and was a lifelong Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers fan.

In retirement, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching movies, jigsaw puzzles and, with his wife, traveling and tending to their flower and vegetable gardens.

Ken will be remembered for his stamina and tireless way.

A veteran, he served with the Army during the Korean conflict.

He leaves: his wife, the former Leah A. Drivere, at home, whom he married Aug. 14, 1954, in the former St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; a daughter, Brenda M. Warrender, at home; two sons, Jeffrey A. Manning and his wife Joan, Choctaw, Okla.; and Michael D. Manning and his wife Tammy, Parker, Colo.; five grandchildren, Cristina Kallies and her husband Mark, New Carrollton, Md.; Nicole Manning, Austin, Texas; Zachary Warrender, a graduate student at University of St. Andrew’s, Scotland; Nathaniel Warrender, Hermitage; and Matthew Manning, Parker; a great-grandson, Alexander Kallies; and two sisters, Phyliss cq Moore, Warren, Ohio; and Donna Cathcart, Austin, Texas.

Besides his parents, Ken was preceded in death by a brother, Lincoln Manning; and a sister, Nancy Entingh.
