Mary Jane George of 109 W. Windbridge Drive, Greenville, died at 3:18 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. She was 88.

Mrs. George was born on April 23, 1918, in Grove City, a daughter to the late John C. and Caroline Schaeffer Gibson.

She was a member of Sheakleyville Presbyterian Church and its Missionary Circle and “Needlers” sewing and quilting group.

Mrs. George also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and traveling with her family. She especially enjoyed traveling to World War II Army reunions and spending her leisure time at a log home near Lake Wilhelm.

Mrs. George was a graduate of the former Fredonia High School and the former Shenango Valley Business Institute.

One of her most treasured times spent were those with her old classmates in the Golden Girls Club of Fredonia and Greenville.

During World War II, Mrs. George was employed at Chicago Bridge and Iron Co.’s former Hempfield Township plant and later worked at Friedman’s Women’s Store, Greenville. She then began a career as a licensed real estate agent working in Greenville and retired in 1980 from Bass Real Estate in Parma, Ohio.

Her husband, Arthur William “Bill” George, whom she married in December 1943, died in June 1999.

Surviving are: her daughter, Mrs. Norman (Caroline) Campbell, Nevada, Ohio; three sons, Arthur W. George Jr. and his wife Donna, Greenville; John C. George and his wife Cheryl, Parma; and Matthew George, Northfield, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Allison, Justin, Marcy and Casey George; Doug and Bryan Campbell; and Beth Cotsmire and Brenda Mutchler; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. George was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Michael George.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of Sheakleyville Presbyterian Church, Sheakleyville 16151.
