Nearly 5,000 Penn Power customers in Mercer County lost electricity after an intense thunderstorm that blew through the area this afternoon.
By 4:30 p.m. outages were scattered throughout the county with an estimated 4,700 customers affected, and Greenville, Mercer and Stoneboro areas being the hardest hit. Crews are being dispatched to diagnose and repair outages, according to FirstEnergy’s website — Penn Power is a subsidiary of FirstEnergy.
The utility estimates power should be restored to most areas by 6:30 p.m. But that may change, as crews hadn't arrived at a number of sites and reports of more outages continues to grow.
