FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP – Two Amish men were arraigned Tuesday on charges that they damaged and tried to enter a home during a confrontation with the homeowner.
Joseph and Nathan Hochstetler, both 18 and of 59 Poole Road, Jackson Township, were among a group of Amish who congregated March 28 outside a home in the 100 block of Runkle Road, Fairview Township, state police said.
The men yelled for the homeowner to come outside before the Hochstetlers attempted to force their way in so the Hochstetlers could fight with him, police said. The group left after about 30 minutes, police said.
The homeowner’s window screens, a window latch and a storm door were damaged, along with a cherry tree and bushes, police said.
Each Hochstetler was charged with attempted burglary, harassment, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.
District Judge Lorinda Hinch, Mercer, released the men after they posted bond and set a preliminary hearing for 3 p.m. May 5.
