SHARON – A Saturday night fire has been ruled an arson by the state police fire marshal.

Sharon fire Chief Bob Fiscus said firefighters were dispatched at 10:02 p.m. Sept. 7 to 188 E. Budd St. with the initial report that the side porch was fully involved in flames.

No one lived in the house, and no one was injured in the fire.

The house is owned by HomeTown Community Rentals Inc. A maintenance crew was getting the house ready to be rented.

When firefighters arrived shorty after 10 p.m., there was heavy fire coming from the side door on a porch area. The fire was mostly contained to that area, and extended up to the second floor, Fiscus said.

The fire was out within the hour, as firefighters cleared the scene at 11 p.m., the chief said.

The origin and cause are unknown, but the state police fire marshal was called in and ruled the fire an arson.

Farrell firefighters and McGonigle Ambulance assisted.
