SHARON – A Sharon man charged in connection with the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl who died in October waived his right to a hearing on the latest set of charges filed against him in the case.
Leonard Michael Frye Jr., 19, of 276 Oak Way, was charged last week, for the third time in the case, with 23 felony charges including multiple counts of rape of a substantially impaired person, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 16 and statutory assault.
Frye waived the hearing and his next court date is scheduled for March 17 in Mercer County Court of Common Pleas.
Frye was arrested in October and placed in Mercer County Jail after Sharon police responded to a call at 11:36 a.m. at his home on a report of a possible overdose by the 14-year-old girl. The girl was found dead in a second floor bedroom with illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The cause and manner of death are undetermined, pending results of toxicology testing, according to Mercer County Coroner John A. Libonati.
Frye told police he was in love with the girl and had been in a relationship with her for about three months.
He was charged at the time with rape of a substantially impaired person, statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors.
Sharon police filed a second set of charges in November after police reviewed 14 video files stored on Frye’s cell phone, according to a criminal complaint. He was accused of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 16, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 16, photographing or filming a sex act, child pornography and criminal use of a cell phone.
Police said the files contain pornographic images that show Frye assaulting the victim.
All charges in the first two cases have been waived to Mercer County Court of Common Pleas.
Police filed the third set of charges after Frye admitted to police that he engaged in sexual activity on multiple occasions with another child who is 15, according to the complaint. He told police that he had smoked marijuana and drank alcohol with both girls before the sexual encounters.
Frye remains in Mercer County Jail after failing to post bond.
