O'HARA TOWNSHIP — Giant Eagle officials called the closure of its store in Hempfield Township, a "difficult decision" in a statement issued Tuesday.

The store, at 50 Hadley Road, Hempfield Township, will close on Saturday, Feb. 1. Pharmacy services have already been relocated to a now-closed Medicine Shoppe location at 419 S. Main St. in Greenville.

"We thank our customers for their years of patronage at this location," Giant Eagle spokesman Dan Donovan said. "While we are disappointed that we were unable to meet the community's needs with our grocery offerings, we are glad that we will be able to continue to service customers at our new standalone pharmacy."

The supermarket chain, which has corporate offices in the Pittsburgh suburb of O'Hara Township, Allegheny County, said Giant Eagle will offer jobs for its own and Medicine Shoppe employees at the Greenville pharmacy location.

Employees at the Hempfield Township Giant Eagle will be offered employment at other western Pennsylvania Giant Eagle locations, according to the statement.
