HERMITAGE — The annual Hermitage Holiday Light Parade will return tonight, and the fun will disrupt traffic on major streets in Hermitage, Nov. 20.

Fireworks will begin at 5:40 p.m. and a foot race, the “Merry Christmas Mile,” will begin at 5:50 p.m. The parade itself will begin at 6 p.m., but the majority of the affected roadways will be closed at about 5:15 p.m., according to a press release.

The roads closed to vehicle traffic will include East State Street, between Buhl Farm Drive and the Shenango Valley Freeway; North and South Hermitage Road, between Highland Road and the freeway; and all side roads that connect to East State Street between Highland Road and freeway, between Buhl Farm Drive and the Shenango Valley Freeway.

Traffic in these areas will be congested and motorists will have to use alternate routes. Motorists should expect delays, while traffic at the Shenango Valley Mall and the Hermitage Towne Plaza will also be congested, the release states.

The parade will begin near the Hermitage Towne Plaza on North Kerrwood Drive and will travel east on East State Street to North Hermitage Road. The parade will then travel north on North Hermitage Road and finish near the mall at Indian Run.

Detour routes will include Highland Road, Buhl Farm Drive, the freeway, Lamor Road and East State Street between the mall and North Keel Ridge Road.

Police ask motorists to drive slowly and cautiously as heavy pedestrian traffic, including many children, will be in the area immediately before, during and after the parade, the release states.
