Spillway postcard

Contributed This 1940s picture postcard showing people tossing bread to the ducks and carp at the Pymatuning Lake spillway in Linesville.

Renovation work is set to begin July 10 at Pymatuning Spillway in Jamestown. The entire east side of the road, including the “bowl,” will be closed to the public during construction.

Structures on the site where visitors look at and throw bread to vast schools of large carp will be removed and replaced. The $2.7 million project will provide modern restrooms, a food and souvenir sales area, pavilions, shoreline stabilization, walkways, landscaping and parking. The work is anticipated to take 300 days.

Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Visitors Center and Pennsylvania Game Commission Wildlife Learning Center will still take visitors.
