The owner of a now-closed Hermitage restaurant was given probation Friday and ordered to pay about a quarter of the restitution his former landlord sought in a bad-checks case.

Carmen J. D’Avanzo, 40, of Phoenixville, Pa., was sentenced to 18 months probation and 200 hours of community service for one consolidated count of bad checks for issuing $55,000 in bad checks to Scoccia Enterprises before his restaurant shut down two years ago.
