GROVE CITY – A Grove City man has been arrested after he was accused of threatening to kill a woman, toddler and himself.

Codey A. Holtman, 28, was served with a warrant Monday morning. following domestic violence incidents at his home Saturday and Sunday, said Grove City police, who were accompanied by the Mercer County Critical Incident Response Team.

Police also searched the home, recovering a handgun used in the alleged crimes.

The woman called 911 Sunday to report that Holtman assaulted her. She met with police at the station that evening, when she said that she and Holtman had been arguing the day before, according to the criminal complaint.

The argument escalated when Holtman pushed the woman and pinned her down.

When the woman tried to leave the home with her three-year-old son around 5 p.m. Saturday, Holtman reportedly threatened to shoot and kill all three of them.

Holtman was about two feet from the woman when he pointed a gun at her face, she told police.

She begged Holtman to let her leave or she’d call police. Still holding the gun, Holtman refused to let them go.

The woman said she feared for her life and felt like she was unable to leave.

Holtman claimed that he would shoot police if she called and they came to the home, then he would kill the woman, child and himself.

The woman’s father came to the home at 7 p.m. because he was expecting a visit from her.

Holtman let the woman and child leave at that time, and his whole attitude changed; he no longer had the gun and begged her to stay, the woman said.

After they left, Holtman texted and called the woman multiple times, asking her to come back, even after she asked him to leave her alone.

She blocked his phone number and said she didn’t report him to police at that time because she was afraid that Holtman would kill her or himself.

Sunday morning, the woman took her child to a relative’s home while she went to work.

When she left work that evening, she learned that her son was at Holtman’s home. When she arrived, Holtman grabbed and punched her in the chest, pinned her down and screamed in her face.

The woman said she had to fight to free herself from Holtman, who grabbed her cell phone.

She was able to run out of the home with her child, followed by Holtman, who smashed her phone on the sidewalk.

The woman drove to her father’s home, where she called police, who reported seeing bruises on her right wrist and arm.

The woman also reported pain in her ribs and head.

Grove City police charged Holtman with false imprisonment of a minor/parent, unlawful restraint of minor/parent, unlawful restraint, endangering the welfare of children, false imprisonment, and two counts each of making terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.

He was arraigned Monday by District Judge D. Neil McEwen, Pine Township, and returned to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $100,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing with McEwen is set for 2:30 p.m. May 19.
