Traffic is slowed on Lamor Road in Hermitage where a project has begun to widen the road between North Hermitage Road and Kenray Drive.

PennDOT is using $560,000 in federal stimulus funds toward a $700,000 project to widen Lamor Road between North Hermitage Road and Kenray Drive.

Work began Monday to add a center turn lane, build curbs, pipe ditches with stormwater pipe and install sidewalks on the north side of Lamor between Valley View Road and Kenray.

Officials hope the project will ease some of the traffic congestion at Hermitage Road during peak driving times.

Lamor will be closed starting next week, and reopen May 21, although some lane restrictions might be needed until the project is complete.

Kirila Contractors of Brookfield has been hired to do the work, which should be done by June 11.

Aqua Pennsylvania worked on water lines before the road work began.
