Residents in Pymatuning Township and Clark will be paying more for garbage service next year.

Both municipalities recently approved 3-year contracts with Waste Management of Pa. Inc., effective Jan. 1.

Monthly rental of a 90 to 100 gallon Waste Management toter will be $16.73.

That’s 78 percent higher than almost double the township’s current cost of $9.38. Customers currently have to buy bags displaying the company’s logo that cost $1.25 each.

After Jan. 1, they can buy any bag up to 35 gallons but must buy $3 stickers from Waste Management to put on the bags.

The sticker program is easier and more convenient for residents, said Michael Christ, Waste Management’s municipal coordinator. To order stickers or toters, residents can call customer service at 1-800-451-3060.

Waste Management, which serves about 1,500 residents in the township, had to increase its fees to cover rising fuel, insurance and labor costs, Christ said.

Clark, South Pymatuning and Pymatuning townships get bids for garbage service through Mercer County Regional Council of Governments.
