MERCER – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) employees at the Mercer County maintenance facility, in partnership with American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 2102, will hold the 24th annual Open House Sept. 18.
The event will feature extended hours again this year, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Returning to the event will be a “Paint the Plow” exhibit, which features snow plows painted by students from Commodore Perry, Farrell, Mercer, Greenville, West Middlesex, and Hickory high schools.
The PennDOT Worker’s Memorial will be on display at the open house.
The Shenango Valley Animal Shelter will accept donations of supplies and pet products.
The open house also draws participation from dozens of not-for-profit and government agencies. Groups slated to provide educational displays include Department of Public Safety (911), Mercer County Emergency Management Agency, M.K. Goddard State Park, Mercer County Conservation District, Munnell Run Farm, Mercer County Safe Kids, Children’s Aid Society of Mercer County, Mercer East End Volunteer Fire Department, Erie Department of Health, Erie Veterans Center, Watson Bus Company, Army Corps of Engineers, Drake Well Museum, Coolspring Corn Maze, Hells Hollow Haunt, Mercer County Animal Response Team, Adopt-A-Highway, United Way, Rep. Tedd Nesbit, Dallas Hartman, Mercer Borough Police, and Mercer Sheriff’s Department.
