Greeted by applause, Daniel Kirsch walked into the Hermitage School Board meeting Monday with a six-foot-long ceremonial check for $150,000.

It was quite a change from last winter and spring, when calls for installing artificial turf at Hornet Stadium were greeted with jeers and doubts  that the community could afford it.

“It’s been a long, tough year,” Kirsch said.
