UPDATE: Includes information on reason for closure and actions.
With a report of more than four COVID-19 cases at Case Avenue Elementary School, the building will close until Monday for disinfectant cleaning.
District Superintendent Michael Calla informed Case Avenue parents of the temporary closure Tuesday afternoon by mass text. During the closure, instruction will continue online.
The closure notice does not affect Sharon Middle High School, or Musser and West Hill elementary schools.
As part of the closure, made after district officials communicated with the state Department of Health, the building will be vacant for 24 hours, followed by disinfectant cleaning.
Calla said in the text that the district has notified the parents of any students who "may have been in close contact with an infected individual" have been notified and instructed to quarantine.
The superintendent said students would take home Chromebooks and charging cords, so students could continue with virtual instruction during the closure.
"Case Avenue will be facing a short closure," the text read in part. "Mr. Calla will be communicating with all families once he receives clarification from the Department of Health. Sorry for the inconvenience."
