FARRELL – A Farrell man was arrested after a resident returned home and found him in his house.
Dwayne C. Howell, 34, of 600 Indiana Ave., Farrell, was charged with burglary, simple assault, theft, attempted theft and public drunkenness.
Southwest Mercer County Regional police said they were called at 2:55 a.m. Friday to the 500 block of Beechwood Ave., Farrell, where Howell was unconscious on the floor.
The resident said he returned home and the door he had left unlocked was pushed shut when he tried to go in, police said. The resident said he forced his way in and found Howell, whom he did not know, police said.
Howell grabbed for the man’s throat and tried to punch him, but the man threw Howell to the ground and choked him until he passed out, police said.
The man said a room had been gone through and his mother was sleeping upstairs, police said.
Howell was arraigned by District Judge Dennis M. Songer, Farrell, who committed him to jail for failing to post bond. Songer set a preliminary hearing for 3:15 p.m. Jan. 8 before District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell.
