SHARON – Police arrested a man in connection with a homicide in Sharon.
Antwan Lamont Jones, 20, Campbell, Ohio, was charged with criminal homicide and is accused of shooting 31-year-old Clarice Somerville.
Sharon police were dispatched at 3:04 p.m. Sunday to a public housing development in the 300 block of Quinby in response to a report of a fight, according to a press release by Sharon police Chief Edward H. Stabile. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Somerville in the courtyard area, shot in the abdomen.
She was taken to an area trauma center where she later died, Stabile said.
According to a criminal complaint, witnesses told police that the shooter ran into a nearby apartment. Police then secured the perimeter to prevent anyone from leaving.
After commanding anyone in the apartment to exit the building without response, police said officers went to the apartment’s second floor, where they found Jones hiding in the shower. Witnesses identified Jones as the shooter.
Jones admitted shooting Somerville in an interview with a Sharon detective, according to the criminal complaint.
Farrell Police Department and the Mercer County district attorney’s office assisted Sharon police in the investigation, Stabile said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. July 23 in front of District Judge Dennis M. Songer.
