MERCER – Soccer fans in Mercer Area School District will get a new concession stand and bathrooms this season.

The $500,000 project adds bathrooms and replaces the current concession stand at the field, which is located across from the Mercer Area Elementary School on Lamor Road.

“Right now, there are no bathrooms,” Assistant Superintendent Dr. Ronald Rowe said.

Rowe said the new concession stand, which is being called a “fieldhouse” by the project architect, will be a concrete block structure.

“There’s an old wooden concession stand that will be taken down,” he said.

Rowe said the work will be completed in time for the first high school home game in September.

“It should not have an impact on the regular season,” he said.

Along with high school teams, the middle school players compete on the field. The elementary school also conducts physical education classes there.

The field was the original high school football field. Rowe said soccer has been played there for the last 20 years.

Hudson Construction of Hermitage is the general contractor for the project.
