COCHRANTON — The Old Mill Restaurant in Cochranton suffered significant damage when the roof collapsed between late Friday and early Saturday.
The owners discovered the collapse as they arrived to open the business Saturday morning around 6:30. Cochranton volunteer fire Chief Scott Schell said his crew arrived to find the roof had collapsed through the second and first floors and into the basement.
Schell said a neighbor heard a loud noise just before 11 Friday night but couldn’t see anything outside. “We’re guessing that’s when it fell down.”
“There’s significant damage,” Schell said. “There’s a section that has a flat roof and we’re assuming that flat roof filled up with water from all the rain and it couldn’t support it.”
The same structure, then operating as the Sugar Shack, suffered damage on Sept. 2, 2009, in a fire and was later remodeled.
