FINDLEY TOWNSHIP – A Meadville man was missing for several hours after an accident Thursday on Interstate 79 before his body was found inside his vehicle early Friday morning.

Zachary Edward Yount, 20, was found inside his car at 1:17 a.m. on I-79 north near mile marker 117.2, state police said in a press release. Mercer County Coroner John A. Libonati pronounced Yount dead at 2:15 a.m. from blunt force trauma.

Libonati said Yount’s vehicle had gone over an embankment on the highway sometime Thursday afternoon. The coroner said Yount was on his way home from Pittsburgh to meet with his mother. When he did not arrive, she reported him missing.

State police searched for Yount and found the vehicle, which was not visible from the roadway, Libonati said.

Police are not sure what time the accident occurred. They are still investigating to determine details, including the cause, of the wreck.

Libonati said Yount sustained fatal injuries in the accident.

“Death occurred more or less immediately due to the severity of his injuries,” Libonati said. “He did not suffer.”

Mercer East End and Springfield fire departments, Corry and Superior ambulance services and Mercer Auto Wreckers assisted at the scene.
