Police have apprehended a couple wanted for abuse of a corpse in connection with a body found last month in an abandoned Sharon house.
Samantha Gregory, 24, and James M. Clarke, 32, both 1098 Baldwin Ave., were both taken into custody this week on charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence.
Gregory and Clarke were arraigned in front of District Judge Dennis M. Songer of Sharon. They were taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $75,000 bail each.
Preliminary hearings are set for Oct. 29 before Songer.
Police said the pair moved the body of Dwayne Jordan and drug paraphernalia in an attempt to conceal his death.
Officers found Jordan's body after being dispatched Sept. 24 to the abandoned house at 1098 Baldwin Avenue. A witness said she saw text messages that indicated Jordan overdosed and was left in the house.
Erie-based forensic pathologist Dr. Eric Vey ruled that the death was not a homicide.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, the witness said Clarke and Gregory came to her house and described events that happened days before. The witness said Jordan was with Clarke and Gregory Sept. 22 at 1098 Baldwin Ave., where they were staying.
Clarke sold Jordan heroin and they both snorted it, according to the affidavit. Jordan then overdosed and died.
Police said Clarke and Gregory carried Jordan's body to the basement and covered him with a sheet. The witness said Clarke was planning to burn Jordan's body to conceal his death.
In the affidavit, police said they believe Gregory and Clarke moved key evidence from Jordan's body to conceal drug sales and drug use.
Police are still waiting on toxicology reports, which could determine that Jordan died from a drug overdose.
