FINDLEY TOWNSHIP – State police said an inmate was found strangled in his cell Monday night in the State Correctional Institution in Mercer.
Darl James Heverly, 35, an inmate, was arraigned by District Judge Daniel W. Davis on homicide charges.
State police were called at 8:50 p.m. to respond to the prison for a report of an inmate, 35-year-old Jason Albert Kelly, found deceased within his cell.
An investigation found that the victim's cellmate had used pieces of a torn bed sheet to strangle him inside the cell in the restricted housing unit.
Police were assisted on the scene by SCI Mercer staff and the Mercer County Coroner's office.
