FARRELL – City police responded Friday evening to a report of gunfire in a residential neighborhood.

No one was hurt by the gunfire, about 5 p.m. in the 300 block of Shenango Boulevard near Park Avenue, said Farrell Police Chief Jon Rococi.

“Nobody was shot, and no houses or vehicles were hit,’’ Rococi said.

In what Rococi described as “a large disturbance,’’ a fight broke out along Shenango Boulevard. The chief said a person left the altercation and returned with a weapon.

Rococi said he didn’t know how many shots were fired but police collected multiple bullet casings from a handgun.

He didn’t know how many people were involved in the fight but “multiple’’ people fled from the scene. Police are investigating a report that a black SUV might have been involved in the incident.

Rococi said that neighbors were reluctant to talk and police didn’t have descriptions or names of people involved.

“We know people saw what happened,’’ Rococi said. “If anyone has any leads, give us a call.’’
