UPDATE: 11:35 a.m. Tuesday
SHARPSVILLE — Police plan to file charges against the driver in a hit-and-run accident Monday.
Sharpsville police Chief Christopher Hosa said the man was injured in the accident near 30 N. Walnut Street in the borough. Hosa said the pedestrian walked into the driver's path, according to a witness account.
"However, after striking him, the vehicle failed to stop," he said.
Mercer County 911 reported that the accident took place at 5:55 p.m. Monday.
Sharpsville Fire Department pedestrian was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment.
Hosa said police had no notification of the man's status and the department is not releasing his identity pending notification of the victim's family members.
The incident remained under investigation Tuesday. Hosa said police plan to file criminal charges because the driver failed to stop after striking the pedestrian.
