Farrell shooting

Armed law enforcement officers enter an apartment at the scene of a shooting Friday at the Lewis R. Landay Apartments in Farrell.

FARRELL — Farrell police were searching Friday night for a man suspected of shooting a city woman earlier in the afternoon.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. when a 20-year-old woman was entering her apartment at Lewis R. Landay Apartments in Farrell. As she tried to enter, a Black man opened fire from across Federal Street, hitting the woman once in the back or shoulder area, Farrell police Detective Capt. Charles Rubano said.

The woman ran around the apartment building while the suspect ran down an alley to the south, next to Lowrey Towing. Rubano said the suspect fired at least 10 shots.

The woman was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Youngstown Hospital. Investigators interviewed several witnesses in an attempt to identify the suspect, Rubano said.

Farrell and Sharon police departments, Farrell Fire Department, Elite EMS and the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident.
