Is the river water really safe to drink?
Joseph P. Hilko
Recently the EPA had a nice-sized ad in The Herald saying how well the plan they devised to replace eliminating the River Road landfill – which was on the Superfund clean-up list – is working. This landfill was placed on the government Superfund list to be cleaned up, not monitored, due to the efforts of people like Pat White, who is now deceased, and others. It was to help the health of the people who drink water from the Shenango River. Why it was determined that we are not worthy of good health is beyond me?
If they believe the river is safe, why is there a sign reading, “Do not eat the fish from the Shenango River notice issued by the state?” Think about it!
