Hermitage

On Dec. 9, 2019, Matthew and Lauren Urey, while on their honeymoon, were critically injured in a volcanic eruption in New Zealand. They spent the next two months in hospitals in New Zealand with their families at their sides. It was a very traumatic, painful and stressful time made even worse by being a half a world away from family and friends.

Our spirits have been continually lifted by the worldwide support we have received. We wish to especially thank the wonderful, caring people of Mercer County and surrounding area who prayed for us, sent words of encouragement and support and collected donations to help with expenses. Thanks also to all who generously donated to Matt and Lauren’s Go Fund Me account. Our faith in the inherent goodness of people has been strengthened by the outpouring of love and kindness shown to us.

A special thank you to family, friends and coworkers who kept things going at home for us while we were in New Zealand.

Matthew and Lauren are at home and continue to make steady progress. They have been overwhelmed by the global response of kindness, compassion and generosity.

We would like everyone to know that your kind acts have had a profound effect on all of us. Every kind word, every message of support and every prayer helped us to get through this difficult, tragic time.
