NILES (AP) – Yainer Diaz doubled and singled twice, scoring two runs as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeated the Auburn Doubledays 11-4 on Friday.

Michael Cooper singled three times with two runs for Mahoning Valley.

Auburn grabbed a 4-1 lead in the second after Landerson Pena hit a two-run single.

Following the big inning, the Scrappers took the lead for good with seven runs in the bottom of the inning. The Scrappers sent 11 men to the plate as Will Brennan hit a two-run single and then scored on a two-run double by Bryan Lavastida en route to the four-run lead.

The Scrappers later scored three runs in the fifth to finish off the blowout.

Matt Waldron (1-0) got the win with four innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Auburn starter Rafael Gomez (1-4) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game.

Mahoning Valley improved to 6-2 against Auburn this season.

The Scrappers and Doubledays wrap up their three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
