Hickory's Daphne Borowicz has advanced to Tuesday's District 10 Class 2A singles championship match.

Borowicz upset 2nd-seeded Alie DiNicola of Mercyhurst Prep, 6-4, 6-3, on Saturday in the D-10 semifinals at Villa Maria Academy's outdoor courts in Erie.

Borowicz will face No. 1 seed Tara Thomas of Villa Maria for the championship at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Villa. Thomas is a 3-time state doubles champ.

Thomas beat Grove City's Mary Coulter, 6-0, 6-0, in the other semifinal match on Saturday.

Coulter beat Wilmington's Mary Matyasovsky, 8-4, in the quarterfinals while Borowicz ousted Villa Maria's Ryleigh Valone, 8-4, in the quarters.

Also in Saturday's quarterfinals, DiNicola beat Hickory's Isabelle Frangakis, 8-1, and Thomas defeated Greenville's Anna Cooper, 8-0.

she also defeated some outstanding Double-A Region 2 singles players from both Villa Maria and Mercyhurst Prep during Saturday’s tournament. I wish her all the best in Tuesday’s D-10 singles championship match.”
