Billy Selders

Kennedy Catholic's Luke Hudson and Joel Stephenson (56) try to tackle Mercer's Billy Selders during Saturday's game at Butala Stadium in Hermitage.

Mercer High’s football team was winless entering Saturday’s District 10 Region 1-A contest with Kennedy Catholic. But the three opponents to whom the Mustangs lost collectively were 11-0.

So to Mercer mentor Pat McClearn’s mind, the jury was still out on what his 2010 edition is — or will become.

Mercer amassed 350 total yards — including 310 rushing — and the Mustangs made the most of the matinee at Butala Stadium en route to a 35-0 rout.

Joe Hess and Jordy McClearn manufactured 96 and 95 yards rushing, respectively, and tallied 5- and 1-yard touchdown runs. Also, Billy Selders scored twice from 1 and 5 yards, Aaron Collins connected for a 24-yard TD toss to Josh DeAngio, while Will Juergens drilled all 5 PAT kicks.
