ä Mercer 6, West Middlesex 4 — At West Middlesex, Brian Tobias gave up 4 runs on 5 hits in the 1st inning, then shut down the host Big Reds the rest of the way as the Mustangs (3-8) posted an upset. Tobias struck out 6 and walked 5.
Mercer tied the game at 4-all in the 5th frame, then the Mustangs took the lead in the top of the 7th stanza on Lance Davis’ 2-run double. Davis went 3-for-4, which included a pair of two-baggers, a single and 4 RBI. Also, Matt Cameron and Shane Trott registered 2 singles apiece for the Mustangs.
West Middlesex starter Tyler Gilmore also went the distance. He whiffed 5, walked 5 and surrendered a dozen hits.
ä Grove City 9, Slippery Rock 6 — At Grove City’s Memorial Park, the host Eagles (4-1 District 10 Region 5-AAA, 6-2 overall) scored 6 third-inning runs to post the Region 5 victory on only 2 hits, but aided by 2 errors, 3 walks, a hit batsman and 5 passed balls. The Eagles tacked on 3 more runs in the fifth frame.
Slippery Rock jumped out to a 3-0 third-inning lead, added a solo run in the 4th and two more in the 6th.
Dan Sonntag led Grove City with a 3-for-4, 2-run, 1-RBI outing, while Dan Keil went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Beau Fisher hit a 2-run fifth-inning homer.
Mark White led Slippery Rock (2-4, 5-5) with a 2-for-2, 2-RBI, 2-runs scored performance, while Brandon Ray blasted a solo shot, and White and Sean Ray belted doubles. Brandon Ray was tagged with the loss after allowing 5 runs on 3 hits and 5 walks, while kayoing three in 2ì innings. ä Hickory 3, Meadville 2 — At Hermitage, Keith Yager scored on a 2-out, bases-loaded walk in the home half of the 7th inning as the Hornets (5-1, 7-2) picked up a D-10 Region 5-AAA win.
Cam Konop went the distance for Hickory, only allowing 3 singles. He struck out 1 and walked 5. Offensively for Hickory, David Leon doubled and singled, Garen Ream ripped a pair of singles and drove in a run, and Adam Abusaleh blasted a second-inning solo shot.
Kelly Williams pitched the entire game for Meadville, fanning 8, walking 7 and yielding 8 hits.
ä Lakeview 4, Conneaut Lake 2 — At Conneaut Lake, the visiting Sailors (10-2) tallied a trio of third-inning runs, highlighted by Nick Somers’ solo shot.
Also for Lakeview, Kyle Patterson singled and doubled, Tom Miller mustered a 2-for-3 plate performance, and winning pitcher Dallas Rodgers aided his own cause by drilling a double. Rodgers recorded a complete-game 4-hitter (all infield singles), fanning 4 and walking 4 and allowing an earned run.
ä Conneaut Valley 7, Jamestown 0 — At Conneautville, the visiting Muskie managed just 3 harmless singles and without run support, Ethan Adams took the loss on the mound.
ä Sharon 8, Kennedy Catholic 0 — At Wengler Field, Markee Juranovich twirled a complete-game 3-hitter as the Lady Tigers (5-4, 5-6) notched a Region 1 victory. Juranovich struck out 8 and walked 3.
Offensively for Sharon, Alex Miller, Sam Vallely and Heather Darlington all collected a pair of singles. Miller also had 2 RBI and Darlington stole a pair of bases.
Katie Ritchey suffered the loss for Kennedy, striking out 6, walking 1 and surrendering 11 hits.
ä Lakeview 9, Conneaut Lake 5 — At Conneaut Lake, the visiting Lady Sailors’ 18-hit assault was keyed by 3-for-4 plate performances from Jessica Grayson and Amanda Canon’s, Jenna Alcorn’s 3-for-5 contribution, 2-for-4 outings from Nikki Burgard, Cami and Chelsey Frye and Sheena Aden’s 2-hit, 1-run scored, 1-stolen base effort as well as and Brittany Casciotti’s 2-run second-inning single led Lakeview (4-8).
For Conneaut Lake, Sara Horne was 3-for-4 with a double.
ä Hickory 4, Greenville 1 — The host Hornets (6-1, 8-3) humbled the Trojans (4-1, 6-5), winning three of four matches in straight sets.
