Last season Hickory High’s football team was headed to the District 10 playoffs. However the Hornets had hurdles they could not clear in the season’s final 4 weeks — the last of which was Sharon.
In the program’s last game played on Hornet Stadium’s soggy sod, a 14-7 regular-season setback to Sharon was the 3rd, and last, of a season-ending skid. While Hickory finished with 5 wins, the Tigers took the momentum of a 6-game winning skein to the D-10 title tilt.
Now the roles are reversed, somewhat, as the teams meet tonight at 7 p.m. in an early-season Region 3-AA affair that will go a long way in determining the identity — and perhaps destiny — of both.
