MONT ALTO, Pa. – Tyler James’ incredible night still wasn’t enough to overcome a powerful Penn State Mont Alto team on Tuesday night as Penn State Shenango suffered a 73-70 loss.

James, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, racked up 26 points and pulled down 17 boards for the game, followed closely by Donovan Verges, a 6-7 junior, with 20 points and 9 rebounds.

The local Lions came within 1 point (71-70) with 17 seconds left on the clock until Marcus Roper of Mont Alto (12-2, 9-0) sealed the game with two free throws.

Mont Alto was led by the PSUAC reigning Player of the Week J.R. Powe with 22 points and 7 rebounds while Quintyn Flemister registered 19 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 7 steals.

The Lions kept it close all night, mostly by a strong effort on the boards, out-rebounding Mont Alto 46-31.

Penn State Shenango (3-10, 3-5) now has a couple of nights off before taking on the USCAA Div. II No. 1 ranked team in Penn State Wilkes-Barre this Friday night at the Buhl Recreation Center in Sharon. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
