According to the Toronto Raptors website, the team signed center Sagaba Konate to a contract on Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Konate only played in eight games last season for the University of West Virginia because of a right knee injury. He averaged  13.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 24.1 minutes. He is WVU’s all-time leader in career blocks.

Konate was the 2016 Class 1A Player of the Year after guiding Kennedy Catholic to a state title. The Golden Eagles beat Philadelphia’s Math, Civics & Science, 71-60, for the crown that year. It was the program’s seventh state championship, but first since 2001.

Farrell High’s Jack Marin was the last Mercer County player to compete in an NBA game. Marin was in the league from 1966-77 and played for the Baltimore Bullets, Houston Rockets, Buffalo Braves and Chicago Bulls.
