Coach Mark Means’ West Middlesex High football team improved to 2-0 on Saturday night with a 39-9 win against the Lakeview Sailors in Stoneboro.

West Middlesex struggled early in the game with 4 fumbles in the 1st half – 2 of them in the red zone.

Jason Davis gave WM a 6-0 lead with 4:02 left in the 2nd quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run. The extra-point kick failed.

The Reds took a 12-0 lead with only 50 seconds before halftime on a 34-yard TD pass from Ty Tate to Alex Rea. Zeb Rubaker added a 2-point conversion run to make it 14-0.

The Big Reds shot out of the gate to start the second half as Rea returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a score. Ian Smith added the PAT for a 21-0 lead.

WM increased its lead to 27-0 with 4:47 left in the 3rd quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run by Davis. The extra-point kick failed.

Lakeview (0-2) cut the lead to 27-9 in the 3rd quarter on a team safety with 1:15 left in the quarter and on a 52-yard TD run by Gavin Murdock and Justin Osborne’s extra-point kick with 58 seconds remaining.

The Big Reds put the game away with a pair of 4th-quarter Rubaker touchdown runs (7 and 12 yards).

West Middlesex rolled for 383 yards of total offense while Lakeview had 56.

Rubaker rushed for 167 yards on 20 carries. Tate only attempted one throw – the TD pass to Rea.

Murdock led the way for the Sailors. He was 6-of-11 for 19 yards and rushed for 34 yards on 9 carries.

GIRLS SOCCER

• Wilmington 7, Neshannock 0 – At Neshannock Twp., the Lady Hounds led 4-0 at the break and rolled past the Lancers.

Emilia Labbiento and Lindsey Martineau had 2 goals each for Wilmington. Ava Krepp, Anna Williams and Emma Hill had the other goals.

Krepp had 2 assists and Martineau, Labbiento, Reese Walker and Megan Bayuk had 1 assist each.

Leah Gerstnecker and Taylor Kendall split time in goal for the shutout. They made 4 saves.

• North Catholic 15, Sharpsville 0 – At South Py Twp., Ava Billman fired in 3 goals while Andrea Bean, Emma Kunzmann and Alexis Wateska had 2 each as the Lady Trojans beat the Devils.

Neva Turner was in goal for Sharpsville.
