The Brookfield High girls soccer team picked up the program’s first-ever win on Monday with a 13-0 win over Liberty.

Coach Chris Whitney’s Lady Warriors snapped a 19-match losing streak with the win at Brookfield.

• Hickory 4, Wilmington 1 – At the Hickory High Tennis Center, the Hornets won the non-region contest in a battle of unbeatens.

Region 3 Hickory improved to 5-0 with the win while the Lady Hounds fell to 3-1.

Daphne Borowicz and Isabelle Frangakis remained undefeated on the season with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Lauren Ordinario won at third singles for the Hornets.

Leah Martin and Nicolette Leonard won at No. 1 doubles for Hickory.

Savannah Bailey and Leah Hickman teamed up at 2nd doubles and posted Wilmington’s lone win.

“This was a big win for the girls and our program,” said Hickory co-coach Joe Bender. “We have 41 girls on the roster, 41 girls excited about high school tennis, five new varsity starters, four of which are in ninth grade, is absolutely amazing. Credit to our captains Martin and Ordinario. This is their season, their team and we are off to a great start.”

• Greenville 3, Sharon 2 – At Greenville, the Lady Tigers suffered a tough loss to the Trojans.

Patience Speir-MacPherson and Kylie Hyde won at 2nd and 3rd singles for Greenville. Sharon’s Camille Fabian suffered an injury and had to forfeit the 2nd set. Katie Addison and Alaina Gregory won at 1st doubles for the Trojans.

Faith McSherry won at No. 1 singles for Sharon and Ella Connelly and Miranda Metro earned their 1st varsity win at 2nd doubles.

“This is definitely a transition year for us,” said Sharon Coach Julie Norris. “We lost three seniors who were key players for us. We went from a roster of 8 girls to 16 this year, so we are really happy with that.

“We’re a young team and it will take some time to adjust, but I’m confident we are going to keep getting better – especially with the great leadership from our two seniors.”

• Grove City 4, Kennedy Catholic 1 – At Buhl Park, Mary Coulter and Naomi Conger posted singles’ wins for GC. Lydia Grove won at 2nd singles for KC.

Region 1 Mega-Match

Coach Craig Antush’s Hickory High linksters rolled to victory on Tuesday in the season’s 2nd Region 1 Mega-Match of the season at Oakland Beach Golf Course in Conneaut Lake.

Hickory fired a team score of 260. They were followed by Reynolds (300), Sharpsville (316), Conneaut Area (336) and West Middlesex (357). Grove City also competed and shot a 354.

Kyra Woods earned medalist honors for the Hornets with an 82. Alaina Harpst (89) led Reynolds, Stacia Fennell (96) paced Sharpsville, Bella Vennare (107) led the way for CASH, Gianna Effinite carded a 92 for West Middlesex and Emily Donahue had a 105 for Grove City.

Reynolds: Alaina Harpst 89, Anna Harpst 102, Mackenzie Herman 109.

Region 2 Mega-Match

Grove City shot a 305 on Tuesday to capture the R2 Mega-Match at Oakview Golf Club in Slippery Rock.

Slippery Rock (317) was 2nd and Hickory (338) placed 3rd. They were followed by Sharon (371), West Middlesex (372), Sharpsville (391) and Wilmington (454).

Grove City’s Troy Loughry was medalist with a 72.

• Brookfield 161, Liberty 201 – At Old Avalon Golf Course in Warren on Tuesday, Conner Stevens fired a 34 and Jake Shingledecker carded a 38 to lead the Warriors (4-1) past Liberty (0-5).

Brookfield: Stevens 34, Shingledecker 38, Justin Atkinson 40, Cameron Wellman 49.

Ursuline Invitational

Coach Larry Smoot’s Brookfield High squad placed 10th out of 22 teams on Monday at the Irish Invitational at Youngstown Country Club.

Akron Archbishop Hoban finished 1st overall with a 305 team score. Brookfield shot a 340.

Atkinson led the Warriors with a 77, Stevens carded 78, Shingledecker shot an 87 and Kenny Montgomery a 98.

Archbishop Hoban’s Solomon Petrie was medalist with a 2-under-par 69. Atkinson tied for 8th place for the Warriors.
