GIRLS SOCCER

• Mercer 3, Sharon 0 – At Tiger Stadium, Julia Balaski fired in a pair of goals and Bailey Grossman posted the shutout in goal as the Lady M’s edged Sharon (3-2).

Regan Dubiel had the other goal for Mercer. Katie Ellis had 2 assists and Emma Juergens 1 helper.

Grossman made 2 saves in the win while Sharon’s Katie Krecek registered 5 saves.

• Wilmington 8, Kennedy Catholic 2 – At Hermitage, the Lady Hounds (1-0, 5-2) led 5-1 at halftime and rolled to the Region 1 win over the Golden Eagles (1-1, 1-5).

Lindsey Martineau fired in 3 goals and had 2 assists to lead Wilmington. Ashley Wignall and Ava Krepp (1 assist) scored a pair of goals for the Hounds and Emilia Labbiento had the other goal.

Reese Walker was credited with 3 assists for Wilmington and Krepp and Sarah Thomas 1 assist each.

Isabella DiNardo scored both goals for KC and Gianna Lepore made 19 saves.

• Bradford 2, Hickory 1 – Coach B.J. Rudge’s Hornets made the long trek to Bradford on Tuesday and suffered a tough 2-1 Region 6 loss to the Lady Owls.

Izzy Hochstetler scored the lone goal for Hickory.

Region 1 Mega-Match

Coach Craig Antush’s Hickory High Hornets captured Tuesday’s mega-match at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Hermitage.

Hickory’s McKenzie Gustas carded an 80 to earn medalist honors. Reynolds’ Alaina Harpst was 2nd with a 97.

The Hornets shot a 250 team score. They were followed by Reynolds (296), Sharpsville (327), Conneaut Area (334), West Middlesex (336) and Grove City (349).

Stacia Fennell shot a 98 to lead Sharpsville, Maggie Battles had a 103 for CASH, Gianna Effinite led WM with a 99 and Emily Donahue carded a 98 for GC.

Marquette Meadville Invitational

One day after winning the Franklin High Bill Mook Memorial Tournament, Grove City captured the team title on Tuesday at the Meadville High Marquette Bank Invitational at The Country Club of Meadville.

Grove City shot a team score of 306. McDowell placed 2nd with a 318 while North East finished 3rd (322).

Meadville’s Ryan Ferry fired a 68 to defend his individual title while Grove City’s Troy Loughry finished 2nd with a 73. Ferry also shot a 68 (tourney record) last season.

Other area team scores: Slippery Rock (326), Hickory (347), Lakeview (358), Sharon (403), West Middlesex (407) and Mercer (431). Kennedy Catholic competed, but only had 3 participants.

BOYS

• Wilmington 15, Sharon 50 – At Buhl Farm Park, the visiting ‘Hounds won the exhibition (Sharon suited up 3 runners; others have not been medically cleared, Coach Bill Divens said), led by Dakota Schuring (21:10), Dale Nestor (21:15) and Beau Reed (21:18).

• Grove City 15, Slippery Rock 46 – At Memorial Park, Grove City, Toby Jones (17:03) led a quintet of ‘Grovers (2-0) to the tape, also including Gabe Nichols (17:13), JoeJoe Somora (17:24), Cael McEwen (17:48) and Chad Helmininack (18:06).

Grove City Coach Mike Sample also reported that the Eagles placed 2nd out of 50 teams in the Div. II race on Saturday at the Boardman Spartan Invitational.

• Hickory 17, Sharpsville 44 – At Delahunty Middle School’s campus in Hermitage, Cole Frazier (18:26.3) led a 1-2-3-4 sweep for host Hickory (3-0) that also included Tommy Hunyadi (19:16), Camden Frazier (19:17) and Dylan Hunyadi (19:38). Kellen DeJulia finished 5th (19:48) for Sharpsville.

GIRLS

• Wilmington 27, Sharon 30 – At Buhl Farm Park, Wilmington’s Grace Mason won in a time of 19:54, while the host Lady Tigers took the next 3 spots, including Abby Douglas (20:53), Natalie Ostheimer (21:05), and Gianna Labbiento (21:07). Sharon (3-1) suffered its first setback.

• Grove City 24, Slippery Rock 37 – At Grove City’s Memorial Park, Slippery Rock’s Harley Pflugh finished 1st in 23:28, 6 seconds ahead of Grove City’s Karissa Dunkerly (24:34). The Lady Eagles (2-0) ended with eight top-10 placewinners.

The Lady Eagles placed 25th out of 40 teams in the Div. II race at the Boardman Invite on Saturday.

• Hickory 23, Sharpsville 32 – On Delahunty Middle School’s Hermitage campus, Hickory’s Logan Davis edged Sharpsville’s Lauren Mehler, 22:02 to 22:45 for the host Hornets (2-1). 

GIRLS TENNIS

• Hickory 5, Warren 0 – At Warren, the Hornets improved to 3-2 in Region 3 play and 8-3 overall with the win over the Lady Dragons.

Daphne Borowicz, Nicolette Leonard and Hannah Beighley swept singles play for Hickory while Lauren Ordinario-Leah Martin and Abbie Bender-Ava Spielvogle teamed up for doubles, wins.

“It was good to get this win as we work through the second half of the season,” said Hickory co-coach Ed Newmeyer. “We’ll be traveling again on Thursday when we head to Erie to face Erie High in another region match.”

• Grove City 4, Sharon 1 – At Grove City, the Lady Eagles rebounded from Monday’s 3-2 loss to Sharon at Buhl Park with a win over the Lady Tigers.

Anna Packard and Naomi Conger won at 2nd and 3rd singles for GC, which also swept the doubles competition.

Faith McSherry had the lone win for Sharon at No. 1 singles.
