A fully-loaded schedule was on tap Friday as every area football team played an opponent from outside the area.

Hickory, Grove City, Reynolds and Wilmington all moved to 3-0 with wins. The Hornets beat Mercyhurst Prep, 46-26; the Eagles routed Corry, 49-14; the Raiders rolled past Saegertown, 61-6, and the Hounds hammered Northwestern, 42-14.

Anthony Pegues grabbed his first head coaching win as his Farrell Steelers shut out Union City, 35-0. Jason McElhaney got his 1st win as Sharon head coach as his Tigers pounded Fairview, 42-0.

Also Friday: Sharpsville beat Seneca, 48-12; Greenville rolled over Iroquois, 56-14; Mercer beat Eisenhower, 20-14; Slippery Rock beat Franklin, 35-6; Lakeview fell to Conneaut (Ohio), 56-7, and Brookfield lost to Springfield Local, 49-28.

The following was reported to The Herald:

• Farrell 35, Union City 0 – At Farrell, first-year Head Coach Anthony Pegues picked up his first victory of the season with the romp over the Bears.

The Steelers built a 35-0 lead at halftime and the mercy rule was in effect for a fast-running final two quarters.

Jaden Harrison scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of 58 and 35 yards, while Raymond Raver hit paydirt on a 1-yard run and passed to Brian Hilton for a 2-yard score. Tyrie Hammonds tallied on a 1-yard run.

Hilton hit on 3 of 4 PAT kicks, while Raver connected with Omar Stewart for a 2-point conversion.

Harrison finished with 104 yards on 5 carries.

• Sharon 42, Fairview 0 – At Sharon, All-State quarterback Lane Voytik put on an aerial display as he passed for 4 touchdowns in routing the visitors and giving first-year Head Coach Jason McElhaney his first win at the helm of the Tigers.

Voytik hit on 12 of 21 passes for 192 yards to move into second place in the all-time passing stats with 6,077 career yards. He surpassed former Grove City QB Cam Patterson (5,886) and is right on the tail of leader Logan Clarke of Mercer who had 6,178.

Voytik broke the Mercer County career record for touchdown passes. He has 68, which broke the previous record of 65 held by Clarke.

On the receiving end of the TDs were Ty Eilam (14 and 44 yards), Marcel Smith Austin (48 yards) and Ja’On Phillips (30 yards). Brady Ortiz also scored on a 4-yard run and Brett Salsgiver on a 12-yard sprint.

Jake Auchter connected on all 6 PAT kicks.

• Mercer 20, Eisenhower 14 – At Mercer, the Mustangs of first-year Head Coach Jeff Lockhard rallied from behind with two TDs in the final quarter for the victory.

Trailing 14-8 after three periods, Ethan Wiley and P.J. Boggs each hit paydirt on 1-yard runs to lift the Mustangs to 2-1 on the year.

Aiden Bright put the Mustangs on the scoreboard first in the second quarter on a 78-yard run and Boggs added a two-point conversion.

Ike (0-3) scored the next two tallies on pass from Owen Trumbull to Dillon Benson (5 yards) and Zane Alexander (8 yards).

• Hickory 46, Mercyhurst Prep 26 – In Hermitage, first-year Hickory Head Coach Bill Dungee saw his team move to 3-0 with an outstanding offensive output led by quarterback Michael Henwood.

Henwood scored on an 81-yard kickoff return, as well as runs of 50, 11 and 3 yards. He also passed to Jackson Pryts for a 16-yard score. 

Also for Hickory, Hunter Stoots rushed for two scores (25 and 61 yards). Stoots rushed for 108 yards on 9 carries and Henwood 98 on 8 totes.

For Mercyhurst Prep (1-2), Steve Smith hit paydirt on runs of 80 and 7 yards, while C.J. Liegl rambled for a 79-yard tally and Iyan Baker scored on a 27-yard pass from Matt Luce.

• Greenville 56, Iroquois 14 – At John Post Stadium, Erie County, the visiting Trojans tallied 36 first-period points en route to the inter-region road rout.

Greenville garnered 43 unanswered points at the outset.

Levi Swartz tallied twice on 13- and 29-yard runs, and Blair Paxton produced a pair of TDs on a 48-yard scoring strike from Jon King and 69-yard Pick-Six.

Jimothy Songer (45-yard fumble return), and Kaleb Achuff, Hayden Robertson and Nathan Reed, with respective 70-, 29 and 6-yard scoring sprints, also tallied Trojans’ TDs. Greenville (2-1) gained 354 on the ground and 412 total.

Iroquois (0-3) scored on 4- and 39-yard sprints by Johnny Drain and Antonio Rodriguez. The Braves boasted 332 rushing yards.

• Grove City 49, Corry 14 – At Forker Field, the Eagles accumulated 454 yards on offense and forced 5 turnovers to earn their 11th straight win at Forker Field.

Grove City (3-0) got career-high efforts from junior quarterback Logan Breese and senior receiver Jake Reddick. The duo hooked up on touchdown passes of 73, 23 and 33 yards in the first half to lead the Eagles to a 42-0 at the break.

After Landen Weis scored 61- and 67-yard touchdowns against the GC reserves, Grove City senior running back Sam Stanton closed the scoring by bulling through a Corry defender from 3 yards out.

Eagles senior running back Colby Nelson – who entered Week 3 as Mercer County’s leading groundgainer –– opened the scoring with a 3-yard run. Anthony Pereira scored Grove City’s other touchdown by pulling in a 12-yard strike from Breese.

Reddick led Grove City with 4 receptions for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns, while rushing for another 23 yards and picking off a pair of passes. Breese completed 10-of-16 passes for 225 yards and 4 scores. He tacked on 44 yards on the ground and also had an interception.

Nelson led Grove City with 95 yards rushing and had the fourth interception.

For the Beavers (1-2), Weis put up 128 of his game-high 175 rushing yards on two carries and otherwise finished with just 47 yards on his other 16 carries.

The Eagles last lost at home when current Penn State University standout Journey Brown and Meadville rolled to a 67-27 victory in both teams’ 2016 regular season finale – Information submitted by Herald Sports Correspondent Corey J. Corbin.

• Sharpsville 48, Seneca 12 – At Seneca, the Blue Devils improved to 2-1 with the win over the Bobcats.

Chris Roth stepped up for Sharpsville after the loss of Chayse Stevens-Luchey to a broken leg last week and had a trio of touchdown runs (2, 9 and 3 yards). Kaleb Gorichky and Zack Tedrow also had rushing touchdowns for the Devils.

Quarterback Danny Henwood added a pair of rushing scores for Sharpsville, which led 42-0 before Seneca scored.

Tristan Besser rushed for 94 yards for the Devils, Gorichky had 92 rushing yards and Roth 87.

• Wilmington 42, Northwestern 14 – At Albion, Ethan Susen scored a trio of touchdowns and quarterback Caelan Bender had his hand in 4 scores as the Hounds improved to 3-0.

Susen scored on runs of 7 and 5 yards and also caught a 25-yard TD pass from Bender. Bender also threw TD passes to Shane Cox (10 yards) and Junior McConahy (1 yard) and scored on a 1-yard run.

Bender was 10-of-19 for 190 yards while Susen led the team in rushing with 78 yards. McConahy hauled in 5 passes for 84 yards.

The Hounds led 14-0 at the end of the opening quarter and 35-0 at halftime.

• Conneaut (Ohio) 56, Lakeview 7 – At Conneaut, the Sailors were no match for the Spartans who jumped to a 56-point lead before Lakeview got on the scoreboard.

Gavin Murdock tallied the lone Sailors score on a 38-yard burst and Justin Osborne added the PAT.

For Conneaut (2-0): Rylan Davison scored on a pair of runs and also passed to Richie Picard for a TD. Chance Ryan ran in two scores, while Leone Moffett and Zack Rice also had scoring runs. 

Lakeview fell to 0-3.

• Springfield Local 49, Brookfield 28 – At Addison Field, the Warriors (1-1) and Springfield Local (2-0) combined for 957 offensive yards in a shootout.

Springfield Local quarterback Beau Brungard rushed for 3 touchdowns and threw a TD pass. His TD runs were 26, 19 and 65 yards. His scoring toss was a 61-yard strike to Garrett Walker.

Also for the visitors, Austin Tindell broke loose for touchdown runs of 65 and 71 yards and Evan Ohlin picked off a pass and returned it 39 yards for a score.

Tindell rushed for 158 yards on only 5 carries while Brungard had 141 rushing yards on 8 carries. Through the air, Brungard was 5-of-7 for 110 yards.

For Brookfield, QB Hayden Gibson had 137 rushing yards on 13 carries and Tyler Briggs compiled 122 yards on the ground on 20 totes. Gibson was 17-of-30 for 209 yards.

Gibson had a pair of touchdown runs (58 and 6 yards) and tossed a pair of TD passes to Gage Emery (6 and 16 yards).

• Reynolds 61, Saegertown 6 – At Transfer, Coach Josh Mull’s Raiders moved to 3-0. No stats were reported to The Herald.

• Slippery Rock 35, Franklin 6 – At Slippery Rock, the Rockets moved to 2-1 with the win over the Knights. No stats were reported to The Herald.

Franklin quarterback Ian Haynes is nearing the District 10 passing record. He started the game with 7,484 passing yards. Cathedral Prep’s Joe Mischler holds the record with 7,719 yards.
