Hickory boys soccer

The Hickory High boys soccer team poses for a photo following Thursday’s win over Sharon at Hornet Stadium. Hickory captured its 4th straight region title.

• Hickory 6, Sharon 1 – Under the lights at Hornet Stadium, Hickory captured its 4th straight region (Region 2) title as Brady Robison fired in 4 goals, 3 in the 1st half, to lead the Hornets (11-1) past the Tigers.

Tyler Mele and Paul Morelli tallied the other goals for Hickory. Morelli added 2 assists and Michael Orendi was credited with 1 assist. Morelli set a school record of assists in a season.

Julian Hudson and John Koprivnak split time in goal for the Hornets.

Sharon scored its lone goal in the 2nd half. Tigers’ stats were not submitted to The Herald.

• Slippery Rock 1, Grove City 0 (2OT) – At Forker Field in Grove City, the Rockets captured the Region 2 win in double-overtime.

David Magliocca fired in the game-winning goal to lift the Rockets to victory.

• Sharpsville 3, Kennedy Catholic 2 – At the McCullough Run Sports Complex in South Pymatuning Twp., Collin Trontel fired in a pair of goals to lead the Blue Devils to the Region 1 win.

Liam Campbell added 1 goal and 2 assists for Sharpsville.

KC stats were not reported to The Herald.

• Slippery Rock 4, Greenville 0 – At Slippery Rock, the host Rockets rolled on Ethan Folmer’s pair of goals and singletons from Nick Kingerski and Liam Gallagher. Hunter Berry, Cole Kovacik, David Magliocca and Kingerski were credited with assists. Slippery Rock goalkeeper Colton Callen collected 5 saves.

Greenville’s Evan Cianci saved a pair of shots on goal.

• Brookfield 10, Middlefield-Cardinal 2 – At Brookfield, Laven Branham scored 4 goals and Grant Abraham added a pair of goals as the Warriors rolled past Cardinal.

Brian Smith, RJ Hall, Andrew Budnik and Colin Murphy also scored for Brookfield. Colin Murphy had 1 assist. Austin Sees (7 saves) and Telly Hamilton (1 save)

GIRLS SOCCER

• Sharon 4, Sharpsville 0 – At Tiger Stadium, Jenna Day scored 2 goals and had an assist and goalkeeper Katie Krecek posted another shutout as the Lady Tigers (6-7) blanked Sharpsville in a non-region match.

Kailee Adamo and Heaven Jacoway added 1 goal and 1 assist each for Sharon.

Krecek made 4 saves and now has 542 saves for her career – most in Mercer County girls soccer history and 3rd in District 10 history.

Colleen Massterson (1992-95) of Iroquois is the D-10 leader with 982 career saves while Ft. LeBoeuf’s Danielle Freeburg (1997-2000) is 2nd with 694.

The all-time Pa. girls saves leader is McGuffey’s Elizabeth Moss (2000-04) with 1,326.

CROSS COUNTRY

Recently, Reynolds girls and boys scored 15-50 sweeps of Kennedy Catholic, which did not field full teams. In the exhibition boys’ race, Reynolds’ John Bresnan out-kicked Kennedy Catholic’s Liam Atkinson, 9:11 to 9:45.

BOYS

• Sharpsville 15, Sharon 50 – At Buhl Park, Kellen DeJulia clocked in at 13:55 to finish 1st for the Blue Devils. Kyle Wareham was the top finisher for Sharon, which did not field a full team.

• West Middlesex 15, Commodore Perry 47 – At West Middlesex, Giovanni Rococi clocked in at 18:39 to finish 1st for the Big Reds. Keane Cropp placed 7th in a time of 20:22.63 for CP.

GIRLS

• Sharon 17, Sharon 38 – At Buhl Park, Sharon senior standout Gianna Labbiento (12:21) finished 1st, followed by teammates Natalie Ostheimer, Abby Douglas and Megan Messina. Sharpsville’s Joanne Chiavazza placed 5th.

• Commodore Perry at West Middlesex – At West Middlesex, neither team fielded a full squad. B.Snyder took 1st for CP in 25:90. L.Widmyer (25:01) was the top finisher for West Middlesex.

• Jamestown 3, Mercer 1 – At Mercer, the Lady Muskies picked up a 25-20, 26-24, 16-25, 25-10 Region 1 win over the Lady M’s.

BOYS GOLF

The PIAA has posted the tee times for Monday’s PIAA Class 2A Championships at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York. The only area golfer competing is Slippery Rock sophomore Jacob Wolak. He tees off at 9:15 a.m. Monday in this year’s 18-hole tourney.

DISTRICT 10
