Hickory girls soccer

The Hickory High girls soccer team is pictured in action against Meadville in the District 10 Class 3A semifinals at Franklin High School on Oct. 28, 2019. Hickory opened the season on Monday with an 11-0 win over Sharpsville at Hornet Stadium.

MERCER – Led by Lilly Roman’s medalist round, Mercer High golf team won Monday’s Region 1 mega-match.

At par-72 Spring Valley Golf Course, Roman recorded an 88, a scant stroke better than Greenville’s Ty Csonka and Jamestown’s Aiden Sweezy.

Led by Roman, Mercer (374) outdistanced Greenville (392), Lakeview (393) and Reynolds (448).

Mercer (22) leads the season standings, followed by Lakeview (20), Greenville (18), Reynolds (11), and Jamestown (7). Kennedy Catholic also competes in the region.

Greenville: Csonka 89, Kaleb Porter 98, Nate Stuyvesant 102, Elliott Ellis 110.

Mega-Match

McKenzie Gustas shot a 75 and Sasha Petrochko carded a 76 to lead the Hickory girls golf team to another Region 1 Mega-Match win on Monday at Grove City Country Club.

Hickory fired a 233 to win by 69 strokes over Reynolds (302). Those teams were followed by Grove City (310), Sharpsville (311), and Conneaut Area (314). West Middlesex only had 2 golfers.

Hickory: Gustas 75, Petrochko 76, Leah Benson 82.

Reynolds: Alaina Harpst 89, Anna Harpst 94, Alison Litwiler 119.

Grove City: Emily Donahue 81, Hannah Hohman 113, Helena Wolbert 116.

Sharpsville: Keelie Steiner 92, Stacia Fennell 95, Audra Anzevino 124.

Conneaut Area: Allison Simonetta 96, Julianna Jacobs 108, Jacqui Detelich 110.

West Middlesex: Olivia Kachulis 118, Lauren Kuncio 122.

The next Region 1 Mega-Match is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Tam O’Shanter.

BOYS SOCCER

Tonight’s Kennedy Catholic at Mercer match scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight has been postponed. A makeup date has not yet been announced.

GIRLS SOCCER

• Hickory 11, Sharpsville 0 – On Senior Night at Hornet Stadium, senior Kayla Saylor fired in 4 goals and added an assist as the Hornets shut out Sharpsville.

Emily Kline had 2 goals for Hickory while Ava Chaser, Izzy Hochstetler, Eliza Maurer, Anna Rodenbaugh and Mia McConnell also posted goals.

Hochstetler, Santina Masters, and Lauren Harkless were credited with assists.

• Slippery Rock 8, Sharon 0 – At Slippery Rock, Hillary Burtner and Emma Hays had 2 goals each as the Rockets beat Sharon.

Hannah Plunkard, Eve Miller and Burtner had 1st-half goals to give Slippery Rock a 3-0 lead at the break.

Hayes tacked on 2 goals in the 2nd half and Burtner, Amanda Lewis, and Isabelle Willison also scored.

Slippery Rock visits Hickory at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

• West Middlesex 3, Kennedy Catholic 2 (OT) – On Senior Night at West Middlesex, Delaney Donaldson fired in the game-winner in OT as the Ms. Reds won a thriller against KC.

Jordin Frazier, a junior, scored the other 2 goals for West Middlesex. Both were on free kicks.

Senior Kasey Gerhardt made 16 saves in goal for the Reds.

Dior Crumby and Julianne Johnson scored for Kennedy Catholic.

• Mercer 4, Wilmington 1 – Under the lights at Greyhounds Stadium in New Wilmington, the Lady Hounds fell on Senior Night to the visiting Lady M’s in the 2020 season-opener for both teams.

Peyton Miller fired in a pair of goals to give Mercer a 2-0 lead. The match remained 2-0 at halftime.

Devyn Bailey and Morgan Miller fired in 2nd-half goals to increase Mercer’s lead to 4-0.

Wilmington’s Reese Walker broke up the shutout with a goal to cut the lead to 4-1.

Bailey Grossman earned the win in goal for Mercer. She made 2 saves.

VOLLEYBALL

• Sharpsville 3, West Middlesex 0 – At Sharpsville Saturday, the Lady Blue Devils posted a 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 sweep.

Sharpsville: Ady Kratko 7 digs; Bella Ritenour 5 kills; Cady Benedict 10 kills, 10 points; Chasie Fry 5 digs; Breanna Hanley 5 digs; Audra Anzevino 5 kills; Lauren Kos 17 assists, 6 kills. WM: Emily Anthony 5 kills, 5 assists.
