West Middlesex Major (12) Division All-Stars rolled to a 9-4 victory over Ingomar in the Pennsylvania Section 2 tourney at Apollo Saturday.
The locals scored 4 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. Jeremy Jansco, Dillon Fair and Matt Dogan shared mound duties, with Jansco picking up the win after going 4 2/3 innings. Alex Endler took the loss. Luke Patton rapped a grand slam and 2-run homer to pace the winners, while Dogan had a homer and 2 singles and Jansco a homer and single. Kyle Gilmore poked 3 singles, Dom Pape 2 and Jarrod Palmer 1 safety. Severino homered in the losing effort.
West Middlesex will take on Indiana at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lions’ Field in Apollo. The winner of the Section 2 tourney will advance to state.
ä Sharon Senior (15-16) Division All-Stars dropped a pair of games to Highland during the Section 2 tournament in Natrona Heights. In the best-of-3 series, Sharon lost 6-5 and 3-1.
In the 1st game, Greg Rearick went 5 innings and was leading 5-2 when he had to come out because of the pitch-count rule. Ten walks eventually hurt the locals, while Highland had only 4 hits and a hit-batsmen.
In the 2nd game, Gary Revale pitched a gem, but took the loss, yielding only 1 earned run and allowing only 2 hits.
“We ran into the best pitching we faced all year,” said Sharon manager Wilbur Juranovich. “I’d like to thank my great coaching staff (Mark Schweiss, Gary Revale and Mark Spanos) and especially the players who learned to play hard at all times. The future of Sharon baseball is bright.”
Team members are Rearick, Revale, Sam Schweiss, Dustin Norcross, Nick Juranovich, Jason Riffle, Joe Volpe, Eric King, Zac Anderson, Nick Spanos, Bryce Vallely, Bobby Cochran and Shawn Matsko.
ä Results of Monday’s Sharpsville game in the Section 2 Senior League/Junior Division Tournament in Kiski were not submitted to The Herald.
District 2 Tourney
MINOR DIVISION (9-10)
ä West Middlesex 15, Hermitage 1 (4 inn.) — At Hermitage, visiting West Middlesex mustered 17 hits, highlighted by Trey Staunch’s 4-hit, 6-RBI plate performance. Staunch slammed the game’s first pitch for the first of his pair of home runs and also singled and doubled. He also tossed a 2-hitter, retiring 11 consecutive hitters at one point.
Also for West Middlesex, Andrew Long and Jerod Horgos stroked a pair of singles apiece, and Branden Dick, Mike Gladysz, Riley Atterholt, Ryan Dogan, Chaz Burger, Mike Bacchetti, Adam Hubert, Phil Fusco and Mitchell Murray chipped in base hits.
Patrick Moldovan doubled and Even Baughman singled for Hermitage, while Noah Orndorff and Baughman split the mound chores, combining for 3 strikeouts.
