Wanda B. Sodano

Funeral and committal service will be Wednesday (7-12-06) for Wanda B. Sodano, 3030 Hadley Road, Perry Township. She died at 6 a.m. Saturday (7-8-06) in her home following a brief illness. She was 57.

Mrs. Sodano was born April 14, 1949, in Mercer Cottage Hospital to Hugh and Viola Riggs.

She married Pastor James Sodano on Jan. 12, 1974. He survives.

Mrs. Sodano graduated in 1967 from Mercer High School; 1969 from Erie Business Center; and 1973 from Davis College, Binghamton, N.Y.

After her children entered school, she opened Mrs. Sodano’s Playschool and taught over 200 preschoolers in the Commodore Perry area.

In the past eight years, she has served as the “pastor’s wife” at Perry (Township) Baptist Church, where she organized the Ladies’ Circle ministry, the children’s department and most importantly, the pastor himself.

She enjoyed reading, laughing, and playing the organ. Mrs. Sodano was devoted to her family, she loved being “Mom” and relished being “Nana.” She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by many.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jimmy Sodano of Wilson, N.C.; her daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Eugene Grinnell, and her grandchildren, Lexie and Isaac Grinnell, all of Hadley. Also surviving are two sisters, Shirley Reynolds of Greenville; and Carolyn Witherow of Hermitage; mother-in-law, Alice Sodano; brothers-in-law, Steven and Ken Sodano all of Bucks County, Pa.; and 36 nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Ralph, Thomas and Calvin Riggs; and six sisters, Helen and Ruby Riggs, Betty Andrews, Ruth Poling, Josephine Barr and Jean Steen; and her father-in-law, James Sodano.

Memorial contributions may be made to Perry Baptist Church, 3030 Hadley Rd. Hadley, PA or Hospice.
